TAI CHI FAQs

Tai Chi Questions and Answers

Have questions? Here are answers to frequently asked questions about tai chi and my online tai chi classes. Feel free to email or call me with any questions too.

Can I do tai chi if I have health problems or disabilities?

Because tai chi is a low-impact form of exercise, it’s often a very effective exercise method that can help people with arthritis, fibromyalgia, anxiety, and other medical problems. A tai chi phrase I like is “motion is the lotion” – or keep moving to keep mobile!! Studies have shown it can help reduce the risk of falls, lower pain levels and ease anxiety. I’m constantly amazed at the different health conditions that tai chi has helped students with. If you have any health concerns, check with your doctor to be sure it’s right for you.

Can I learn tai chi online?

Absolutely, my online tai chi classes teach you from the comfort of your own home. I can see you on my screens and help you to learn the forms and get into the correct postures. There’s plenty of time for feedback questions and additional support – and no-one gets left behind in a class.

How often should I practice tai chi?

The more the better. I offer 8 classes a week, but if you miss a class, you can access my catch-up video classes and the individual movement instructions on the Members Area of this site. When you have a bit of tai chi under your belt, you’ll find it’s easy to fit tai chi into your day, even when you’re out and about.

Can tai chi videos help?

I always recommend you learn tai chi from a qualified instructor such as myself. However, videos and books can offer additional learning and support. That’s why I have free videos if you want to see what tai chi with me is like, or if you’re looking to practice at home between classes.

Is online tai chi suitable for me?

If you’re looking for pumping dance music, a teacher yelling at you, and everyone around you looking like they’re entering a Mr Muscle contest, then no, it’s not for you. If, however, you’re looking for a fun and supportive online tai chi class for people of all shapes, sizes and abilities, where you’ll feel safe to ask questions and get help – then tai chi is definitely suitable for you.

What happens in a tai chi Zoom class?

You simply log in online to your members area, choose the class you want to attend and click the Zoom link. Each class is
55-minutes long and there’s a warm-up session in every class. There’ll be others there too of a range of abilities and I’ll be able to see you from my screens. I’ll guide you through the class and there’s plenty of time for questions, feedback and proper support. No rush to keep up.

What should I wear to a tai chi class?

There’s no need to buy special equipment for tai chi. As long as you have some comfortable shoes and clothes and a bit of space around you, you’re all set.

How does tai chi online membership work?

There are three levels of membership: Bronze, Silver & Gold. Choose the level that suits your requirements and then complete the sign-up form. You can have access to up to 8 live classes a week (32 a month) and free practice video resources. At the Silver membership level, there are additional video resources to support and guide you on your tai chi journey. There’s no need to book into a class either – you simply use your personal zoom ID and passcode to join a class. The money is taken out automatically each month. It couldn’t be easier.
